Summary: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is about a girl named Katniss. The nation of Panem was formed from a post-apocalyptic North America. This wealthy nation is surrounded by 12 poorer districts. These districts compete in an event known as the Hunger Games, a show of Panem's power over the districts. One boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 is chosen to compete in the games. They are then put into an arena to kill each other. Only one of the 24 'tributes' can leave alive. When 16-year-old Katniss's younger sister gets chosen for the games, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and Peeta, the male tribute from her district, are forced to fight the stronger tributes from wealthier districts. Basically, it is a death sentence, but for Katniss, survival is second nature. My Thoughts: I finally read this book! I went into this book with extremely high expectations. It meet most of them. The only bad thing I can say about this book is that I didn't think the actual writing quality was that great. Don't get me wrong, the story concept and plot were great. The writing quality, not so much, but other than that, this book was great and you should go read it if you haven't read it yet. :) |
