Summary: Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder is about a girl named Yelena. About to be executed for murder, Yelena is given a choice. Become the food taster for the Commander, a risk in itself, or be executed. Yelena chooses to become the food taster. The chief of security deliberately feeds her Butterfly's Dust and only by appearing for duty everyday, with her full cooperation, will she get a dose of antidote, which delays an agonizing death from the poison. As Yelena tries to escape this dilemma, new disasters keep coming. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magic she can't control. She threatened again, but the outcomes aren't so clear... My Thoughts: Maria V. Snyder never ceases to amaze me. Her books are fabulous and captivating. The rest of the trilogy never gets boring and the world building is phenomenal. I highly recommend Poison Study and other Maria V. Snyder books to the lovers of fantasy novels. |
