Summary: Popular by Maya Van Wagenen is about Maya's story. In school she is stuck at the bottom of the social ladder. She decides to start a unique social experiment: spend the school year following a popularity guide from the 1950's written by Betty Cornell. How can girdles, can curlers, Vaseline, and a strand of pearls help Maya become popular? She is about to find out. My Thoughts: I loved this book. It was a supper easy book to read and got me out of a book slump. If you want a pick-me-up book this is the one you should read! Written by a teenage girl, it is so relate-able and sincere. If she wrote another book, I would be all over it. This is the perfect book for those just starting to read contemporary books. (And "contemporary experts") |
